Welcome to Year 5  for the second half term.

Mrs Nicholls and I have been most impressed with the children's behaviour and determination to do well in their learning this first half of the autumn too. We look forward to sharing their many successes when we meet via Teams in the next couple of weeks.

Our topic on 'Slavery' continues but this half of term the fous will be much more on the Civil Rights movement that developed in the USA with Rosa Parks,  Martin Luther King and also Nelson Mandela in South Africa. We will be exploring 'Biographies' in writing looking at these men and women who were a force for change with the right of black men and women.

This half of term will see our Thursday afternoons be our time for Science. We will be finding out and carrying out various experiments to do with the forces of gravity, air resistance and friction on moving objects.

Our Timetable has changed for this half term and a copy of the new one is now attached to this page. The children will be given a copy for their planners this Friday (6th November).

PE (Hockey) is now on MONDAYS so please ensure they arrive in full outdoor games kit for that day.

Swimming has now been postponed until the end of this current lockdown. It is, as yet, uncertain if and when their lessons will resume but we will notify you of any changes.

Homework

Homework is going to start and continue from this half term onwards. It will be set on a Friday to be completed the following Friday. Mrs Nicholls and I will be alternating Maths and English homework and it will be done online. The details of the English work will be communicated to you shortyly. Maths will, at the moment, be MyMaths and set by me. I shall show the children how to login and how to follow the lesson before doing the homework task. The 'Lesson' forms part of their homework. I will be able to see their scores and the number of attempts at the task made and when they do them. Although the pogram marks their tasks I can still comment on how they have done and they can see these as soon as the log back into that work. Please encourage them to read them. They get a percentage score and I strongly encourage more than one attempt if they get less than 70%.They can revisit and try the tasks again at any time.

Many thanks for your continued support,.
