Year 4 2020 - 2021

Mrs Morris

Deputy Head Teacher and Year 4 Teacher

Welcome to Year 4 everyone and at long last, a MASSIVE welcome back to school!!!

We are going to be doing things a little differently to usual. There will be a few new routines like regular hand washing, where we all enter/exit school, a one way system around the building and the playground ALL TO OURSELVES at break times but it will soon become very familiar to everyone.  As we didn't have our normal transition day together in July, at the end of the summer term, we are going to do our transition from Year 3 into Year 4 from the beginning of this term instead.smiley

We have lots of exciting things planned for us to do this coming term but to start with we are going to be focusing on a book called 'Here We Are' by Oliver Jeffers. Oliver wrote this book especially for his son, Harland, when he was born to try and help him make sense of the world he has become part of. It isn't just us in Year 4 who are going to be working on this book but the WHOLE school are going to be using it as part of their transition to their new year groups too. Even our new reception children and Mrs Jepson!!! We will be able to do some art work, poetry, music and lots of other things as well as part of this work. I'm really looking forward to starting it.

As we settle back into school life, we wil be starting our history topic for this term - 'The Romans.' It is one of my absolute favourite topics to do. We are going to be learning such a lot of information about the Romans (and the Ancient Britons too, who lived under Roman occupation.) Some of our literacy work will be linked in with our history studies and we will be writing reports, newspaper recounts and arguments all based on our learning. We will be finding out about modern day Italy too as a short geography study to support our Roman work.

I am very excited about everything that we have ahead of us to do and cannot WAIT to get started. I hope that you are too.
